Castle Roborough, Loxhore

Castle Roborough is an early earthwork castle near the village of Loxhore, Devon. Probably built in the 11th or 12th century, only the motte, 120 ft (36 m) across and 15 ft (4.5 m) high, remains today. The top of the motte has a deep hollow in the centre; there may have been a stone tower on top of the motte, since destroyed, or the motte might have been built up around a stone tower – again, lost. The site is protected under UK law as a Schedule Monument.
