Llanfyrnach Motte

Llanfyrnach Motte was a small motte and bailey castle in Crymych, Pembrokeshire, Wales. Nothing is known about the history of this castle, of which only earthworks remain. Today, the motte is approximately 25 ft (7 m) tall, with a summit 60 ft (18 m) across, with a depression in the middle. The probable remains of the bailey lie to the south-east. There are stone foundations on the top of the motte, but it is unclear what these supported. The interpretation of these remains is uncertain – the motte may have supported a fortification, or may have been a ringwork design; alternatively, the motte may have been a mound built up around a stone fortification.
