Whorlton village defences

The Whorlton village defences are a set of earthworks near Whorlton Castle, in the abandoned village of Whorlton in North Yorkshire. The earthworks lie to the east of the early 12th-century motte-and-bailey castle, and form a rectangular set of banks and ditches. It is uncertain if these earthworks were defences associated with a medieval settlement alongside the castle, or if they were constructed as part of its later parkland. They are protected under UK law as a Scheduled Monument.
